SINGAPORE, Sept 27, 2026 – Residents woke up to unhealthy air quality this morning, with three regions recording 24‑hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) readings in the unhealthy range.
Central Singapore entered the unhealthy band at 8pm yesterday, followed by the western and eastern regions at midnight and 1am respectively. One‑hour PM2.5 peaked at 131 in central Singapore at 9pm before easing into the lower elevated band. At 9am today, PSI readings ranged from 90 to 130, with central Singapore recording the highest at 130.
Air Quality
According to the National Environment Agency (NEA), moderate to dense smoke haze from fires in Kalimantan drifted towards Singapore yesterday, while smoke plumes were also observed from southern Sumatra. With prevailing south‑easterly and south‑westerly winds, NEA warned of continued risk of haze affecting the island. Dry conditions are expected to persist in both regions.
Health advisories urge the public to reduce strenuous outdoor activity when PM2.5 levels are elevated. Vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, pregnant women, and those with chronic illnesses should avoid strenuous activity. If readings reach the high band, all healthy persons should avoid strenuous outdoor activity, while vulnerable individuals should avoid outdoor exposure entirely.
