MACC, FBI Step Up Cooperation to Tackle Corruption and Cross-Border Crime

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) are strengthening cooperation through the exchange of expertise, experience and enforcement capabilities. MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman said the matter was discussed during a courtesy visit by an FBI delegation led by Law Enforcement Attaché Varinder Singh to the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya on September 24.

Abd Halim said strategic cooperation with the FBI would help strengthen MACC officers through shared experience, best practices, training and capacity-building programmes. The meeting, which lasted nearly an hour, also covered operational matters involving corruption linked to fraudulent activities and coordination between enforcement agencies in tackling crimes that cross national borders. 

The MACC chief commissioner said the visit also opened opportunities for both agencies to identify additional areas for future cooperation. He described Federal Bureau training and programmes as valuable opportunities for MACC personnel to improve their enforcement capabilities. The latest engagement reflects efforts by both agencies to strengthen coordination as corruption and other criminal activities increasingly involve international networks.
