PETALING JAYA, Aug 8, 2026 – Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Barisan Nasional (BN) must be prepared to compromise on seat allocations in the upcoming Melaka state election if they wish to sustain the momentum of the “blue wave,” said Wawasan president Hamzah Zainudin. Speaking after his party’s extraordinary general meeting, Hamzah stressed that compromise is essential to preserve cooperation between parties for a larger political agenda.

“If we truly want to move together, we must embrace the spirit of compromise. The blue wave began in Johor and continued in Negeri Sembilan. To maintain it, tolerance is key,” he said. BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi previously announced BN’s intention to defend all 21 seats it currently holds in Melaka, a stance supported by Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh. However, Hamzah noted that negotiations must consider the broader national picture, not just Melaka, as every party naturally seeks more seats.

Hamzah added that Wawasan aims to defend constituencies where it already has representation and grassroots support, including Bemban and Sungai Udang. He emphasized that the goal is not merely to contest but to secure victories.
