SINGAPORE, Aug 29 — A Singapore magistrate has dismissed a woman’s application for a Personal Protection Order against her estranged husband, despite him sending a chilling message saying he fantasised about killing her.
The couple, married in December 2023, separated less than a year later after the wife struck her husband during an argument. She alleged five incidents of family violence between May 2024 and January 2025, including emotional, psychological, and physical abuse.
The most striking evidence was a Telegram message sent on December 29, 2024, in which the husband admitted being in an “unstable state of mind” and described his anger. Magistrate Yvette Tay, however, ruled on August 19 that the words did not amount to abuse in the context of the case.
Protection Order
Tay noted the wife’s immediate responses — including telling him she missed him, suggesting a holiday, and sending an intimate photo — indicated she was not fearful. The magistrate described the husband’s message as an “over-honest and misguided” explanation of his mental state rather than a threat.
The wife’s application was dismissed, and she was ordered to pay S$1,500 (RM4,665) in costs. Police confirmed the couple had not communicated since January 2025.
