Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has called on BN and Perikatan Nasional (PN) machinery to show restraint as campaigning for the Melaka state election intensifies, Bernama reported.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also Umno president, made the remarks to Malaysian media in Istanbul on Thursday (Nov 5) after a pre-meeting with Malaysian representatives and the delegation during his working visit to Turkiye.
Call for restraint in Melaka state election
He reminded party workers to campaign responsibly, noting that campaigning between BN-PN had intensified and that there had been several clashes which should have been avoided.
Ahmad Zahid said excessive campaigning, including raising issues that had nothing to do with the state election, would not change the decisions of voters.
Mutual understanding between coalitions
The BN chairman said both sides should respect what they had agreed on with the chairman of the PN coalition, even though no formal pact exists.
“Although there is no formal agreement, mutual understanding is very important,” he said.
The 16th Melaka state election will see polling on Nov 14, with early voting on Nov 10, as fixed by the Election Commission.
