Politician Zaid Ibrahim blasted ‘do-gooders’ whom he says are wrong in thinking banning smoking will stop people from puffing cigarettes.
And he is not alone in the sudden outburst after Minister of Health Khairy Jamaluddin officially announced the government intended to ban smoking for those born after 2005.
“The do-gooders think when they ban smoking, there will be no more smokers. They are wrong; smoking just get to be more expensive, smuggling more rampant,” he says in a tweet today.
He adds that a ban on smoking cigarettes or vapes will bring, “more side income for enforcers.”
“Why not ban tolled roads? Ban big scale theft from govt coffers?” he asked.
Tweeple who are responding are saying it is ‘easier to bully small fishes’.
Jega@jegathink·En réponse à @zaidibrahimNot banning cigarettes means profits are taxable. Banning cigarettes means higher prices in the black market controlled by a few cartels with no profits to be declared and no tax to be paid. A perfect political cash cow.
And The 4D Ban
Others are contrasting the intent to ban cigs and vapes to the ban on 4D shops in a certain state.
Tan 1956@tan7_uncle·En réponse à @zaidibrahimThe do gooders think by banning 4ekor Judi will be better …Yes Black market 4 ekor are the most happy on this !!!!
Not everyone is happy with Mr Zaid Ibrahim’s ‘shoutout’ on the cigarettes ban.
Rosli@rs_rosli·En réponse à @zaidibrahimThere are better issues to shout than about smoking.
And there are those who support the ban saying it has to start somewhere to put cigs away from children.
Nevertheless, Zaid’s shoutout is raising the concerns of contraband and the black market which will be very difficult to contain.
