Sex workers in Hamburg’s red-light district, once persecuted by Hitler, will soon have their own memorial. The Nazis built gates around the area to shame them, but now St Pauli district council aims to honor their memory. Modelled after Holocaust “stumbling stones,” the marker will bear QR codes with the fates of known victims.

Pastor Sieghard Wilm spearheads the project, aiming for dignified remembrance. Herbertstraße, the infamous street, will host the memorial, challenging the district’s history while recognizing the plight of those once marginalized. It’s a step towards acknowledging and respecting the overlooked victims of Germany’s past.
