41 Malaysia-Jakarta Flights Cancelled After Anak Krakatau Eruption

A total of 41 flights to Jakarta were cancelled at Malaysian airports on Monday following the temporary closure of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport after volcanic ash from the Anak Krakatau eruption disrupted flight operations.

Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) said the affected flights were scheduled between 6.45am and 11.55pm, causing disruption for passengers travelling between Malaysia and Indonesia. 

KLIA Records Highest Number of Flight Cancellations

Kuala Lumpur International Airport recorded the largest number of cancellations, with 30 flights affected — 20 at Terminal 1 and 10 at Terminal 2.

Penang International Airport recorded seven cancellations, while Subang Airport had two. Kuching and Kota Kinabalu each recorded one cancellation, while Kota Bharu Airport was not affected by any cancellations. 

The cancellations followed the temporary closure of Jakarta’s main international airport as volcanic ash affected aviation operations.

Passengers travelling to Jakarta were therefore advised to check their flight status directly with airlines before heading to the airport, particularly as operational conditions could change depending on the volcanic activity and airport reopening arrangements.
