Pakatan Harapan Opposes Any Reduction of Najib’s Jail Term

Pakatan Harapan (PH) has signaled its firm opposition to any reduction in former prime minister Najib Razak’s prison sentence or political deals that could compromise ongoing court cases. 

In a statement, the PH secretariat stressed that individuals convicted in high‑profile corruption and abuse of power cases must serve their full sentences as determined by the courts. It emphasized that the rule of law requires judicial processes to be completed independently, without perceptions of external influence.

The reaffirmation comes at a critical time for PH and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who face accusations of weakness in tackling corruption involving allies in Barisan Nasional (BN). 

This includes perceptions surrounding the halted prosecution of Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in the Yayasan Akalbudi case, and speculation that Najib may receive a full pardon. 

Reports indicate the Federal Territories Pardons Board is scheduled to hear Najib’s application on 11 September.

Najib was convicted for a second time in December 2025, sentenced to 15 years in prison and fined RM11.38 billion. 

His revised SRC International sentence is set to end in August 2028, though remission for good behavior could have allowed early release. PH’s statement reiterated its commitment to reform, integrity, and anti‑corruption principles, even amid political pressure and shifting alliances.
