Umno President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has dismissed the possibility of renewed political cooperation with PAS, claiming elements of betrayal among its leaders remain a major obstacle. Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, said past experiences during the formation of Muafakat Nasional revealed such attitudes, preventing the alliance from lasting.
Betrayal DNA
“Their DNA is betrayal. If they remove it, maybe we can consider, but if not, better we forget,” he told reporters after launching the National Social Policy Action Plan 2026-2030 in Kuala Lumpur. His remarks followed PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang’s call for Umno to return as partners. Zahid also affirmed Umno’s support for the Unity Government while sharing Negeri Sembilan Umno’s stance against MB Aminuddin Harun.
