On August 18, 2026, a two-storey terrace house in Alam Damai, Cheras was destroyed in an early morning fire believed to have been sparked by an electric vehicle (EV) being charged in the front porch/foyer.

Emergency services were alerted around 5:03 AM regarding the fire at a double-storey residential unit in Alam Damai, Cheras. A total of 22 firefighters from the Cheras, Sungai Besi, and Bandar Tun Razak Fire and Rescue Stations (JBPM) were deployed to the scene. The operation was fully wrapped up by 6:41 AM.
The double-storey terrace home sustained 100% damage. No injuries or casualties were reported.nitial statements from KL Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director of Operations, Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, indicated the fire is believed to have originated from an EV being charged in the front area of the house. While JBPM has not officially named the car brand or model, media reports speculate the burnt carcass closely resembles a Mercedes-Benz EQE.
