PETALING JAYA, Aug 18, 2026 – DAP chairman Gobind Singh Deo has called on Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to expedite several major institutional reforms, setting a deadline for bills to be passed by year-end.
Gobind said DAP’s decision to remain in government came with a mandate to push through reforms such as the separation of the attorney-general and public prosecutor’s roles, a two-term limit for the prime minister, and amendments to both the Peaceful Assembly Act and the controversial Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma).

“The groundwork for these changes has already been laid. The AG-PP separation and two-term limit bills are prepared, while Sosma amendments were tabled as far back as February last year. We must finalise and table them without delay,” he said in a statement.
Gobind urged Anwar’s administration to show the same urgency it displayed in convening a special Dewan Rakyat session on the Tabung Haji inquiry report. He suggested allocating additional sitting days between October and December to ensure the reforms are passed.
“DAP remains fully committed to ensuring these reforms are carried through. We should aim to pass them before year-end,” said Gobind, who also serves as digital minister.
