Alcohol ban: Perak MCA raised concern

Perak MCA has raised concerns over the expansion of alcohol sales restrictions, which are currently in effect in Manjoi, with potential plans to extend to other areas like Ulu Chepor. Despite reassurances from DAP and PKR leaders that no such decision has been made, MCA’s information chief, Chung Kok Heung, criticized the denial, pointing to confirmation from Ipoh Mayor Rumaizi Baharin. Chung questioned whether DAP and PKR were misleading the public. The Ipoh City Council had earlier approved a study on alcohol restrictions in Muslim-majority areas, with a ban already enforced in Manjoi following resident protests in 2020 and 2021.
