KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has applied to the High Court to refer eight constitutional questions to the Federal Court regarding a civil suit filed by former research assistant Yusoff Rawther in 2021. The suit alleges an assault at Anwar’s home in 2018. Anwar seeks clarification on whether his role as prime minister grants him immunity under Articles 39, 40, and 43, and protection from “vexatious” suits under Article 5(1). He claims the suit is politically motivated and an abuse of process. The High Court, under Justice Roz Mawar Rozain, will decide on the referral today.
