KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6, 2026 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim reacted with visible excitement to Malaysia’s hosting of the 2026 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix at Sepang International Circuit (SIC), describing it as a proud moment for the nation.
Anwar thanked Bahrain for entrusting Malaysia with the event and lauded the close cooperation between SIC and Bahrain International Circuit. “Salute to everyone who worked tirelessly, from bus drivers, security personnel and volunteers to traders and cleaners. Behind the excitement were their hard work and dedication, which deserve our appreciation,” he said.

He also praised Malaysians for their hospitality, noting: “You showed the world a Malaysia that is friendly, open and rich in the spirit of goodwill. Hopefully, we will meet again in Sepang, Insya-Allah!”
The race, held from Oct 2 to 4, marked Formula 1’s return to Sepang after nine years, with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen clinching victory. Anwar’s upbeat remarks underscored his enthusiasm for Malaysia’s potential permanent return to the F1 calendar.
