Anwar to Meet Anthony Loke Before Deciding on Transport Minister’s Resignation

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he will meet Transport Minister Anthony Loke before deciding whether to accept his resignation offer.

Loke informed Anwar of his intention to step down following the Federal Territories Pardons Board’s conditional pardon for former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, but had not submitted a formal resignation letter as of Sept 20. 

Anthony Loke Yet to Submit Formal Resignation Letter to Anwar

Anwar said he wanted to hear Loke’s views directly before making any decision. Loke, who is also DAP secretary-general, announced his intention to resign after an emergency DAP central executive committee meeting on Sept 19.

He said he would remain DAP secretary-general and Seremban MP, while other DAP ministers and deputy ministers would continue serving in the Federal Government. 

Anwar said the Government would address the situation one matter at a time and dismissed immediate speculation over a Cabinet dissolution.

Loke’s proposed resignation follows DAP’s decision to remain in the unity government despite its position on Najib’s conditional pardon. The next step depends on discussions between Anwar and Loke and the formal submission of the resignation letter.
