China’s Zhang Zhijie, 17, tragically died on June 30 after collapsing during a badminton tournament in Indonesia. The incident happened while he was competing against Japan’s Kazuma Kawano in the Badminton Asia Junior Championships in Yogyakarta.

A video showed Zhang preparing for a serve at 11-11 before suddenly collapsing. Medical officials promptly attended to him, and he was taken to a hospital within two minutes, but he passed away at 11:20 pm. Badminton Asia and the Badminton Association of Indonesia expressed their deepest condolences to Zhang’s family and the Chinese Badminton Association.
