KUALA LUMPUR, July 14, 2026 — Barisan Nasional (BN) and Umno could face a difficult task in wresting control of Negeri Sembilan from Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the upcoming state election if they contest without cooperation from Perikatan Nasional (PN) and PAS.

Political observers noted that Umno lacks a figure with statewide appeal comparable to Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, while PH has governed Negeri Sembilan for two terms and retains strong grassroots support. Concerns among Malay voters over the “UMDAP” label also persist, strengthening arguments that BN may need a broader opposition alliance to remain competitive.
