The Association of Commodities Importers for Animal Feed Malaysia (ACiAFM) has urged the government to reconsider the 5% Sales and Service Tax (SST) on certain imported feed raw materials, warning it will drive up the prices of chicken, eggs, and meat.
Chicken, Egg and Meat Prices Could Climb Under New SST Rules
Interim president Chong Kam Weng estimated the tax could add RM170 million in costs, which would ultimately be passed to consumers and reduce Malaysia’s competitiveness. Although corn and soybean meal are exempt, about 30% of ingredients remain taxable.
ACiAFM has proposed exemptions for feed producers, while the Federation of Livestock Farmers Associations awaits a formal response from the Finance Ministry.
