AYER KEROH, Aug 17, 2026 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reiterated that the Unity Government will remain intact until the end of the current parliamentary term, even as coalition partners compete against each other in upcoming state elections.
Speaking at the closing of the PKR National Congress 2026 in Melaka, Anwar said his decision to continue working with Barisan Nasional (BN) and UMNO at the federal level was driven by two priorities: political stability and economic prosperity. “I choose stability. I choose prosperity for the people through economic growth. That is my choice,” he declared.

Anwar insists
Anwar emphasised his strong personal ties with BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Abang Openg, and GRS chairman in Sabah, noting that many issues could still be resolved through dialogue. He acknowledged that some recent decisions by coalition partners were unexpected but urged respect for their strategies.
He reminded PKR and PH leaders that safeguarding national unity was more important than political rivalry. “We must preserve this unity. My relationship with Zahid remains very good. At the federal level, I have not heard any negative views,” he said, cautioning against statements that could spark tension.
