JOHOR BAHRU – Two workers died and another was hospitalised after inhaling toxic gas at a scheduled waste treatment plant in Pasir Gudang on Sept 30. The Johor Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) said the victims, operating the Water Treatment Plant (WWTP), were exposed to hydrogen sulfide gas in a sump pit.
Toxic Gas Leak
Two were found unconscious around 9.15 pm and confirmed dead before reaching Sultan Ismail Hospital, while a third collapsed when trying to help. He is in stable condition. DOSH issued prohibition and improvement notices, ordering closure of the accident site pending investigation. The Johor Fire and Rescue Department also deployed a HAZMAT unit after receiving an emergency call. Investigations are ongoing.
