KUALA LUMPUR: The opposition bloc has proposed that the government defer the second reading of two key reform bills, including legislation to separate the powers of the Attorney General and to limit the Prime Minister’s tenure to 10 years.

Perikatan Nasional chief whip Takiyuddin Hassan said both drafts should first be referred to a Parliamentary Select Committee for detailed scrutiny and amendments. He argued the term-limit bill may be unconstitutional, claiming it infringes on the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s discretionary authority to appoint a prime minister under Article 40 of the Federal Constitution. The government has yet to respond.
