Indonesian authorities detained a group of illegal migrant workers bound for Malaysia during a May 5 operation at Tunon Taka Port in North Kalimantan. Despite their arrest, many remain determined to return, citing better job opportunities and family ties in Malaysia.

Some admitted to paying smugglers and using illegal routes. Currently held at a migrant protection centre, several had previously evaded repatriation and re-entered Malaysia. Officials say financial constraints hinder full repatriation efforts. 

The case underscores persistent economic migration pressures and the difficulty of curbing undocumented cross-border movement between Indonesia and Malaysia.
