A 43-year-old man was killed when his car collided head-on with a palm oil tanker on Jalan Tanjung Manis in Sarawak on Monday (Oct 19), The Borneo Post reported.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said the victim, Lee Jing Fook from Jalan Setia, Sibu, was travelling from Tanjung Manis towards Sibu when his car crashed into the tanker coming from the opposite direction.
He was thrown out of the car into a large drain near the scene and was pronounced dead by Health Ministry personnel. The 51-year-old tanker driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Tanjung Manis Health Clinic.
Public Moved Victim Before Firemen Arrived
Bomba received the emergency call at 10.44am. Members of the public had moved the victim to the side of the drain before nine firemen from the Tanjung Manis fire station arrived, so no rescue or extrication was needed.
Firemen moved the body to a safer spot and handed it over to the police, then flushed the road to clear debris. Police, Civil Defence Force and Sarawak Energy personnel were also at the scene. The operation ended at 12.40pm.
