Labour has won a landslide victory in the UK general election, according to the exit poll. It will mean Keir Starmer becomes the new prime minister. Labour is expected to win 410 seats, with the Conservatives on 131. On social media, Starmer thanks “everyone who voted for us and put their trust in our changed Labour Party”.
Labour wins big
The Conservatives’ Jacob Rees-Mogg calls it “clearly a terrible night” for the party. Voting closed at 22:00 with results from most of the 650 constituencies due overnight. The first result of the night came in Sunderland South just before 23:15 – a win for Labour’s Bridget Phillipson.
