It seems there is a rise of rabies cases in Kuching and Bintulu. The government has placed a fine up to RM2,500 to dog owners who did not vaccinate their pets. Furthermore, canines that are exposed to the disease will be put to sleep regardless.

Netizens state that cats, rats, squirrels and other mammals are also prone to being the carriers of this disease. For the most part, many are advising others to be careful especially when going out.
X users also state that these animals could have been abandoned by their owners or are without owners. Many respond that local residents should inform their respective jurisdictions if there are canines without owners that are possibly infected with rabies roaming around.
