Anwar Downplays Umno’s Challenge To Hold GE16

KOZHIKODE, Sept 15 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has dismissed Umno’s challenge to remove the party from the unity government and hold early elections, describing it as merely a “view.”

Speaking at a press conference after concluding his working visit to India, Anwar said differences of opinion were normal, even within his own coalition, Pakatan Harapan. “I choose to take the moderate path. For me, it is important that the government remains stable, otherwise the nation will lose out,” he said.

Anwar added he had no issue with remarks made at the Umno general assembly, likening disagreements to “problems in every household.” He stressed that relations with Umno remained intact.

At the assembly, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi challenged critics to remove Umno-BN from the government and table a no-confidence motion against Anwar, but later reiterated BN’s commitment to remain until the end of the term.
