PETALING JAYA, Sept 17 — Federal territories minister Hannah Yeoh says she expressed her views on Najib Razak’s pardon application during the Federal Territories Pardons Board (FTPB) meeting on Sept 11 after reviewing the attorney-general’s written opinion.
Najib Pardon
“I have stated my views honestly, guided by my conscience and with the best interests of the nation in mind,” Yeoh said in a statement. She stressed her role as minister responsible for the federal territories, clarifying that the final authority rests with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong under Article 42 of the Federal Constitution.
Her remarks came in response to law and institutional reform minister Azalina Othman Said, who noted that questions on the deferment of Najib’s pardon should be directed to Yeoh. On Sept 11, the legal affairs division confirmed that the Agong had consented to defer Najib’s application to a future FTPB meeting.
