Haze has pushed air quality into the unhealthy category in three Malaysian areas, with Serian in Sarawak recording the highest Air Pollutant Index reading as of 4pm on Sunday. Data from the Air Pollutant Index Management System showed Serian at 157, followed by Samarahan at 151 and Johan Setia in Selangor at 124.
Haze Alert: Serian Tops Malaysia’s Unhealthy Air Quality Readings at API 157
Under Malaysia’s API classification, readings between 101 and 200 are considered unhealthy, while 201 to 300 is categorised as very unhealthy and readings above 300 are hazardous.
The latest figures mean residents in the three affected areas are facing poorer air quality compared with locations still recording moderate conditions.
Despite the unhealthy readings, 65 other locations nationwide remained in the moderate category. The APIMS system provides hourly updates based on information from 68 monitoring stations across the country, allowing authorities and the public to track changes throughout the day.
The latest readings serve as a reminder for residents in affected areas to stay alert as haze conditions fluctuate and air quality can deteriorate quickly depending on weather and atmospheric conditions.
