Lenggeng assemblyman Asna Amin criticized DAP senator RA Lingeshwaran for questioning aid given to new Muslim converts at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI). Asna said the senator’s remarks were disrespectful and ignored Islam’s position as Malaysia’s official religion.
Warning Against Religious Sensitivities in Political Criticism
He stressed that outreach to non‑Muslims and support for new converts does not contradict the Federal Constitution. The issue arose after a poster offering benefits to converts went viral, prompting UPSI to clarify it was unofficial.
Lingeshwaran insisted the matter warranted investigation, while Asna warned DAP leaders not to touch Islamic sensitivities that could spark tension.
