Malaysian Prisons Overcrowded: 87,000 Inmates Exceed Capacity

Deputy Prime Minister Dato Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi revealed that Malaysian prisons now house 87,000 inmates, exceeding the maximum capacity of 74,000. He emphasized the need for cross-agency and ministry efforts to address this overcrowding issue.

During a speech at the World Trade Center, Zahid highlighted the government’s commitment to finding solutions and making policy decisions for the country’s social development. 

He also discussed other issues, including online sexual crimes against children, banking policies for persons with disabilities, and the management of internally displaced persons. The government is implementing 44 key social action plans involving 19 ministries and agencies.
