KUALA LUMPUR – KUALA LUMPUR: Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (Smart) members retrieved the bodies of two victims of the recent earthquake in Myanmar from separate sites today.
The National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) reported that the 50-member team is conducting search and rescue (SAR) operations at Moe Gya Mosque, Nyoo Ma Mosque, and Nyat Private School, where locals estimate 20 people remain trapped. Arriving yesterday after a 24-hour, 270-kilometer journey from Nay Pyi Taw, the team faces security risks, including bombings and landmines, as they target critical sites like mosques, temples, and schools.
