Malaysia’s digital and technology-based companies have the capabilities to compete in global markets, according to Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) chief executive officer Datuk Abu Bakar Yusof.
He said Malaysian participation in the fifth Global Digital Trade Expo (GDTE) in Hangzhou provides an opportunity to tap into China’s large digital economy and expand the country’s technology exports.

MATRADE brought together 15 Malaysian exhibitors and four government agencies at the Malaysia Pavilion during the September 23-27 expo.
The pavilion showcases Malaysian capabilities in digital trade, artificial intelligence, cloud services, smart healthcare and cross-border e-commerce. Abu Bakar said MATRADE is also seeking to diversify Malaysia’s presence in China by targeting second-, third- and fourth-tier cities.
MATRADE also exchanged a memorandum of understanding with Industrial and Commercial Bank of China to help Malaysian micro, small and medium enterprises expand their export capacity and access China’s market through digital trade.
The expo, themed “Meeting the AI Future”, features exhibitors from around the world and participants from 121 countries and regions.
