To keep a young man’s record clear, a Singaporean man, Ramamoorthy Reddiar Jayaraman, ate the teenager’s cigarette to help him evade enforcement action. As a result, Ramamoorthy was fined S$1,000 (approx. RM3,400) by the court on July 30.

The incident occurred on March 18 at Block 515, Hougang Avenue 10, where Ramamoorthy was drinking beer. The teenager joined him and began smoking despite a “No Smoking” sign. When NEA officers approached, Ramamoorthy quickly ate the cigarette, allowing the teen to flee.
In court, Ramamoorthy pleaded guilty to obstructing an NEA officer and was fined. The teenager remains uncaught.
