The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) reaffirmed its commitment to humane stray dog management through its Trap‑Neuter‑Release (TNR) programme, launched in 2018. Since then, 8,484 dogs have been neutered, with no strays put down. 

No Stray Dogs Put Down Since 2018, Says MBPP

MBPP Mayor Dato’ Rajendran P. Anthony announced the renewal of its MoU with IAPWA Penang for another five years, alongside a RM100,000 council contribution and RM5,000 personal support from Councillor Tan Soo Siang. 

The initiative ensures sustainability, public safety, and animal welfare, positioning George Town and Penang as leaders in humane urban animal control.
