Melaka Assembly Dissolved, State Polls Ahead

MELAKA, Sept 22, 2026 — Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh announced the dissolution of the Melaka State Assembly (DUN) effective tomorrow, paving the way for the state’s 16th election.

Speaking at a press conference in Kompleks Seri Negeri, Ab Rauf, who is also Melaka Umno chief, assured that the caretaker government will continue prioritising the welfare of the people. “The dissolution does not mean government affairs stop,” he said.

He declined to comment on whether Umno would field new candidates or if Barisan Nasional (BN) had finalised cooperation with other parties. The Election Commission (EC) is expected to meet soon to set key dates.

Melaka’s 28‑seat assembly currently has 20 BN representatives, five from Pakatan Harapan (PH), one independent opposition leader, and two Bersatu members. The polls are expected to see fierce contests among BN, PH, PN, Bersatu and Bersama.
