The Malaysian government has been accused of attempting to bankrupt Datuk Seri Najib Razak before the Special Commissioners of Income Tax (SCIT) hear his defense regarding the issue of additional tax assessments raised against him.
Najib Razak defense lawyer accuses government of bankrupting him
Najib’s defense lawyer, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, argued that this meant the government’s arguments in the SCIT as the proper academic forum were no longer relevant if they succeeded in bankrupting Najib before the commission reached its conclusions.
He further stated that this action by the government was malicious and motivated by hidden intentions. The case was heard before a panel of five judges at the Federal Court. Najib and his son, Datuk Mohd Nazifuddin, appealed against the immediate judgments obtained by the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) in their income tax arrears case.
