It appears that the naming conventions in Malaysia will also be scrutinised if it’s in English. Netizens feel that area names should be in Malay to preserve the country’s identity. But, a recent sinkhole incident in Kerinchi has sparked users to debate about the issue again.
Netizens find irony calling “Kerinchi” Bangsar South
An X post states that for marketing purposes, the area was renamed Bangsar South. But, when a sinkhole appears, it’s suddenly called Kerinchi again. Another user states that the sinkhole appeared directly at one of the areas that are recognised as Kerinchi.
Others claim that the property value may drop if it was reported that said area has a sinkhole problem.
