Over 10,000 Patients Awaiting Organ Donations in Malaysia

More than 10,000 patients are awaiting organ donations. Kidney transplant patients make up the largest group, with 10,266 on the waiting list. The National Transplant Resource Centre (NTRC) reports that only 960 donors have contributed 3,024 organs and tissues since 1976.

Over 10,000 Patients Awaiting Organ Donations in Malaysia

Director Dr. Mohd Syafiq Ismail Azman emphasizes the need for greater public awareness. Last year, 82 individuals donated organs after death. With 15,304 new pledgers recorded, the total number is now 398,000.

Despite this, Malaysia’s organ donation rate remains low. Family consent and specific conditions are required for donations. Organ donation is permissible in Islam.
