PAS seeking revenge against Bersatu after PN suspension

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 23, 2026, Former Umno Supreme Council member Mohd Puad Zarkashi has accused elements within PAS of attempting to exploit the Registrar of Societies’ (RoS) suspension of Perikatan Nasional (PN) to exact revenge on its former ally, Bersatu.

Puad claimed PAS was already “oppressing” Bersatu despite not yet being in power, citing remarks by PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, who warned, “ingatlah, akan tiba masa kamu pula di bawah nanti.” He described the statement as a veiled threat.

He contrasted PAS’ approach with Barisan Nasional’s more measured handling of new partners through its “Friends of BN” mechanism, criticizing PAS for admitting Parti Wawasan Negara (Wawasan) into PN without full consensus. Puad also recalled Umno’s political history, including its temporary ban and challenges during Pakatan Harapan’s first administration, warning of the dangers of long-term political vendettas.

RoS suspended PN activities under Section 13(2A) of the Societies Act 1966 effective Sept. 23, following complaints from a coalition member. Wawasan condemned the move, alleging political motives to block PN from contesting in the upcoming Melaka state election, but pledged continued cooperation with PN partners.
