A Penang couple convicted of having sex in a cemetery had their one-year jail term reduced to 28 days. M. Jegathesan, 58, and Halila Abu Bakar, 37, were arrested on March 23 after being caught at Batu Gantung cemetery. Initially sentenced to 12 months, their lawyer Naran Singh argued the punishment was excessive and sought a reduction.
Cemetery Tryst
The High Court upheld the conviction but ruled the time already served was sufficient. The case drew public attention after a video of the incident went viral, with prosecutors calling for deterrence. Both were released on April 21 after serving 28 days.
