There are several discussions regarding Perodua’s new EV. However, it seems that despite the low price, the batteries are rented. This may be helpful to customers who need the price to be lower, and pay a small monthly fee for the battery service.
Perodua’s RM80k EV May Disable if Rent Not Paid
Some feel this is a standard operating procedure for electric vehicles as the manufacturers can control the range and distance of said vehicle. However, during an emergency, these vehicles may have better range for the passenger’s safety.
Currently, the battery will cost their customers RM275 a month. An RM825 upfront fee is needed for the first three months of the battery rent. Regardless, it is entirely up to the consumers if they’d want to proceed with this deal.
