Netizens Upset at Malaysia’s Press Freedom Index Dropping

Malaysia’s Press Freedom Index ranking has slipped to 95th globally, down from 88th last year. The decline has sparked frustration among social media users, many of whom expected greater progress toward media independence.

Malaysia’s Press Freedom Index 95th Place 

Netizens are claiming that the promises made by PH before they were in power were not kept. These opinions are reflected on social media depending on the situation. 

Despite Malaysia’s Press Freedom Index dropping to 95th place, it still ranks ahead of several Southeast Asian peers. The region’s strongest performer is Timor Leste at 30th, followed by Thailand at 92nd. In contrast, Singapore sits at 123rd while Indonesia trails further at 129th.
