Lawyer-activist Latheefa Koya has urged Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to declare his opposition to any effort aimed at securing early release for former premier Najib Abdul Razak, currently imprisoned over the 1MDB scandal. Her challenge follows Anwar’s response to criticism for accepting Najib’s apology regarding the scandal. Latheefa questioned whether Anwar would commit to using all legal avenues to oppose Najib’s early release, given the severity of the 1MDB theft. Anwar, addressing backlash, defended his acceptance of Najib’s apology, stating that as prime minister he should respond with goodwill when approached sincerely, despite differing public opinions.
