1 min read

Myanmar’s former leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been moved from detention to house arrest, according to state media. The 80-year-old Nobel laureate had been held since the 2021 military coup, reportedly in a prison in Nay Pyi Taw. Military chief Min Aung Hlaing announced her remaining sentence would now be served at a designated residence.

Suu Kyi, who rose to power in 2015 after decades as a pro-democracy activist, previously spent over 15 years under house arrest. Her son, Kim Aris, expressed skepticism, saying he has no proof she is alive and dismissed the released photo as outdated.
