Transport Minister Anthony Loke stated that housing developers should consider reducing the number of parking spaces if said developments are near public transportation services. On paper, it might seem like a good initiative, but government facilities connecting these two points are practically non-existent in most places.
Reduction of Condo Parking Spaces
Social media users say that the government should fix the state of public transportation first before forcing developers to follow through these types of guidelines. There’s only so much such proposals can do if MRTs and LRTs are already at capacity during peak hours.
Others said that such initiatives will only increase illegal side parking to an amount never seen before. It seems that social media users are less confident in public transportation here as there have been a number of breakdowns as of late.
