RM19m Consultancy Fee Sparks Courtroom Corruption Allegations

1 min read

At the Sessions Court, a witness revealed he was repeatedly pressured by Sayed Amir Muzzakkir, former political secretary to a home minister, to hand over part of his RM19 million consultancy fee from the RMPNet police project.

Datuk Seri Mohd Khairi Mat Jahya, managing director of Al Khairi Group Bhd, testified that Sayed Amir claimed credit for introducing him to Nexuscorpgroup’s owner and arranging a meeting with Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

Witness Says Ex‑Political Secretary Demanded RM9m

Khairi was appointed consultant with a five percent fee, which amounted to RM19 million after Nexuscorpgroup secured the RM359 million contract.

Following the award, Sayed Amir demanded RM9 million and threatened to block Khairi’s access to the minister if he refused. Khairi added that Hamzah later personally flagged his aide’s misconduct before removing him from office.

In May 2024, Sayed Amir was charged with three counts of corruption involving RM350,000, including soliciting and accepting bribes from Wan Azhar Mohamed Yusof to help Nexuscorpgroup secure the RMPNet tender worth RM381 million.

The charges fall under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009, carrying up to 20 years’ imprisonment and heavy fines. The trial before Judge Rosli Ahmad continues tomorrow.
