RM6,000 Monthly Needed for Animal Shelter Costs

For seven years, Aunty Janaki has devoted her life to feeding and caring for stray dogs around Jinjang, Kuala Lumpur. 

What began as weekend feeding grew into a full‑time commitment after her retirement, with efforts to neuter and care for abandoned animals. By early 2026, she was responsible for more than 60 dogs.

Appeal to Malaysians: Neuter, Don’t Abandon

Her work faced a crisis when a developer ordered her to vacate the land within a week. With help from content creator Sidney Rayos Michael, volunteers, and donors, the dogs were relocated to a temporary shelter in Rawang. 

Today, Janaki cares for more than 75 dogs, travelling regularly to monitor their wellbeing.

The dogs are safe, but costs remain high. Boarding and food alone require RM6,000 monthly, with fundraising campaigns aiming for RM30,000 to cover six months. 

Janaki has also withdrawn RM2,000 monthly from her EPF savings, which she says will run out by November. Her hope is to establish a permanent sanctuary, with plans for a 2.1‑acre facility in Klang that could house up to 400 animals. 

She appeals to Malaysians not to abandon pets and to support neutering efforts, stressing that stray animals deserve love, not pity.
