The Education Ministry has ordered schools and educational institutions to immediately stop outdoor activities in areas where the Air Pollution Index (API) exceeds 100, as Malaysia faces hot weather and haze conditions.
The directive covers outdoor sports, gatherings and other activities outside classrooms, with student health and safety given priority.

Education director-general Datuk Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad said activities should be moved indoors or postponed when conditions become unsafe.
Sporting events under the Malaysian Schools Sports Council and Islamic Education Division will also be relocated or conducted indoors where necessary, based on the latest API readings.
Schools located in areas where the API exceeds 200 must be closed immediately, according to the ministry.
Schools have also been instructed to ensure sufficient drinking water, encourage students to stay hydrated and closely monitor activities that could expose them to excessive heat or haze. Institutions are advised to work with nearby clinics and hospitals if health complications arise.
