ALOR GAJAH, Aug 26, 2026 — Barisan Nasional (BN) Melaka has declared it will defend all 21 state assembly seats won previously in the upcoming state election. BN Melaka chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the seats are non-negotiable and form the basis of any cooperation talks with other parties.
“We will not compromise on the 21 seats. That is our boundary line in discussions,” he told reporters at the Kampung Digital Melaka workshop.
Ab Rauf, who is also UMNO Melaka chief and the state’s chief minister, welcomed discussions with PAS leaders expected to meet him this week, but stressed that any decision must be endorsed by the UMNO Supreme Council.

On speculation that the Melaka state assembly could be dissolved in September, he said dissolution could happen “anytime,” adding that the exact date would remain undisclosed to maintain anticipation.
Melaka has 28 state seats. In the last election, BN secured 21, Pakatan Harapan five, and Perikatan Nasional two. The current mandate expires on Dec 31.
